SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Born to a deaf and teaching family in Michigan, Brian completed his high school education at California School for the Deaf in Berkeley in 1968.  He moved on to earn a BA in Sociology at Gallaudet University in 1972 and a MA in Special Education at Cal State University Northridge.  His first career move was teaching at California Schools for the Deaf, Riverside and Berkeley/Fremont for 15 years mostly in Mathematics area.  After a short stint in business for 2 years, he returned to teach at Ohlone College as Professor in ASL with another Masters degree in Teaching ASL from McDaniel College in 1994.  Teaching ASL Linguistics and Deaf Culture in addition to teaching all levels of ASL, he developed and taught new courses at Ohlone:  ASL Storytelling, ASL Classifiers, ASL Literature, and Deaf History.  Being lured out of retirement from teaching and bicoastal, he joined Gallaudet as a part of a pioneering effort in teaching ASL to L1 deaf college students since fall of 2007.

Has been married to his childhood girlfriend for 34 years and raised 3 deaf children who are Gallaudet graduates as well.  Is very fond of Giddy, his 2-year-old Boston Terrier.
